Following
the introduction of the BMW C1 in spring 2000 and the C1 200 in
spring 2001, the two C1 models are entering the 2002 model year
without any significant changes. But since, according to the old
rule, virtually everything can be improved to an even higher standard,
the BMW C1 benefits from a number of model update features in the
2002 model year. To improve protection in bad weather, the A-pillar
profiles at the front come with a higher rain retention strip, keeping
rainwater flowing off the windscreen at the side out of the interior
even more efficiently and thus giving the driver even better protection
than before. The rear roof spoiler has also been modified in its
shape and size, making sure that the driver is not exposed to rainwater
flowing along with the wind. More power, more performance and a
new sound – that is the new BMW C1 200. To be distinguished
at first sight from the “small” BMW C1 only by the “C1
200” model designation on the front side panel and, the “big”
C1 excels in particular through its more powerful engine. Maximum
output of the 176 cc power unit is 13 kW/18 bhp, that is 18 per
cent more than on the “standard” version. The increase
in maximum torque, on the other hand, certainly a more significant
factor in everyday motoring, is more significant, with torque boosted
from 12 to 17 Nm (8.8—12.5 lb-ft), an increase by 42 per cent.
The result of this modification is even more driving pleasure than
with the “standard” C1.
With the regular model already
offering lots of fun in town, more than one might expect considering
the power-to-weight ratio of 12.3 kg/bhp, the C1 200 really moves
the driver in every respect, guaranteeing quick acceleration from
the traffic lights as well as even faster and shorter overtaking.
Acceleration from 0—50 km/h is down from 5.9 to 3.9 seconds,
meaning that in this speed range particularly relevant in city traffic
the C1
200 is 51 per cent faster than the C1 with its smaller engine. The
wide range of optional extras and special equipment for the C1 200
is the same as for the original C1. In the first sales year of the
C1, that is the year 2000, no less than 70 per cent of all purchasers,
for example, opted for ABS, thus benefitting from an active safety
feature quite unique in this category. The passive safety system
on the C1 200 is also the same as on the C1 and thus remains unrivalled
in the market. The BMW C1/C1 200 Family’s Friend is designed
accordingly: It is colourful, almost a bit “freaky”
and thus really appeals to teenagers – provided Mum and Dad
are willing to give them the money to buy one. The BMW C1 Familiy’s
Friend is the vehicle for going shopping or driving to the local
gym, for a date or for driving to work. The BMW C1/C1 200 Family’s
Friend basic model also features a large storage compartment in
the front fairing and the luggage case fastening kit behind the
safety cell as standard.
The BMW C1/C1 200 Executive is
for the businesswoman or businessman driving to work, the manager
going to the office, and the insurance agent visiting his clients.
You will certainly also see the Executive parked outside major theatres
and exhibition centres. The wide range of standard features offered
in this case includes a storage compartment, a mobile phone holder,
a reading light, the luggage case fastening kit, a luggage net,
and luggage railing. The result of this modification is even more
driving pleasure than with the “standard” C1. With the
regular model already offering lots of fun in town, more than one
might expect considering the power-to-weight ratio of 12.3 kg/bhp,
the C1 200 really moves the driver in every respect, guaranteeing
quick acceleration from the traffic lights as well as even faster
and shorter overtaking. Acceleration from 0—50 km/h is down
from 5.9 to 3.9 seconds, meaning that in this speed range particularly
relevant in city traffic the C1 200 is 51 per cent faster than the
C1 with its smaller engine.According to the old rule, virtually
everything can be improved to an even higher standard, the BMW C1
benefits from a number of model updates in 2002 and now offers driving
pleasure for the whole family.
