Yamaha give the R6 even more attitude!

Yamaha have given their legendary R6 the first makeover since its introduction in the 1999.

With 90% of the bike's parts modified or replaced the 2003 model is essentially a brand new bike. The motor finally gets treated to a fuel injection system in order to keep up with the GSXR600, and along with ceramic cylinders, a higher lift intake cam and ram air induction Yamaha now claim a maximum power output of 123 bhp at 13,000rpm. The gearbox has been strengthened and revamped for smoother shifts, and a new 4-2-1 pipe with stainless downpipes together with a 3-way cat to reduce emissions compliments the overall look of the new R6.

The chassis is all new, and thanks to a the new die-cast technique is also lighter. It has some 50% more torsional rigidity and is held together with only two welds! The new swingarm on the R6 is also made using the same technique. It really is a work of art as well as being longer thus giving more stability. The frame and the swingarm ar both now finished in black. More weight is saved with the all new 5-spoke wheels, helping reduce overall weight by a claimed 3 1/2Kg.

Headlights are new "Gatling" style and instruments are based on the R1's.

Available colours are Blue and Silver Metallic, and they'll be in dealers by February 2003.
